According to Yangmei Fengxi, on August 16, 2021, relevant officials from Huarui Company visited Shanxi Zhongke Hui’an Chemical Co., Ltd. to inspect the dimethyl carbonate (DMC) project. As a non-toxic, environmentally friendly chemical raw material with excellent properties and wide range of applications, dimethyl carbonate has an extremely bright future as new application areas are developed and technological capabilities improve. Currently, dimethyl carbonate in China is mainly used in industries such as lithium-ion battery electrolytes, oil additives, paints, coatings, adhesives, and developing solutions. It is understood that dimethyl carbonate is produced using urea and methanol as raw materials, with liquid ammonia, ammonia water, mixed alcohols, and sodium carbonate being produced as by-products. Huarui Company currently produces urea products. The Xinjiang Economic Development Zone has a methanol production capacity of 300,000 tons per year; this project falls under the category of projects that are encouraged according to the \"Guidance Catalogue for Industrial Structure Adjustment\" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, thus offering positive market prospects. Currently, Huarui Company is conducting analyses and evaluations regarding the technical reliability, production costs, and investment requirements for the dimethyl carbonate project. Shanxi Zhongke Hui’an Chemical Co., Ltd., utilizing technology from the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has built in Tunliu District, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, the plant for the production of propylene carbonate through the reaction of urea with 1,2-propanediol – a key process in the world’s first industrial demonstration project aimed at the indirect production of dimethyl carbonate from urea and methanol, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons. Commissioning with feed started on July 18, 2020. After 100 hours of continuous and stable operation, the device achieved the target values of a 100% urea conversion rate, a one-pass yield of propylene carbonate greater than 90%, a purity of propylene carbonate of ≥99.95%, and a purity of liquid ammonia of ≥99.9%.
