Recently, the first large-scale centrifugal compressor in the ethanol plant of the Yushen 500,000 tons per year coal-based ethanol project, namely the carbon monoxide circulation compressor, which was EPC-general contracted by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., was successfully installed. This marks the official start of the installation work for the large-scale equipment in the ethanol plant. This compressor is the core equipment of the carbonylation reaction conversion unit, responsible for the circulation and supply of carbon monoxide, the main gas in the reactor. The ethanol plant is equipped with a total of 9 large-scale compressor units, including 3 large-scale centrifugal compressors, 5 large-scale reciprocating compressors, and 1 large-scale screw compressor. All of these are located within the compressor building of the compression unit in the ethanol plant. Additionally, at the ethanol plant area, the two largest tower units assembled on-site in the entire facility – the methanol degreasing tower and the ethanol refining tower – successfully passed their pressure testing in one go. The 500,000 tons per year coal-based ethanol project of Yanchang Petroleum in Yushen utilizes the dimethyl ether carbonylation technology for ethanol production, which was developed jointly by Yanchang Petroleum and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, enabling an annual output of 500,000 tons of ethanol. The project requires an investment of 6.98 billion yuan and is located in the South Area of Qingshui Industrial Park, Yushen Industrial Park, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, covering an area of 1,365 mu. Construction of this project officially began on November 6, 2018. It is planned to be completed by mid-2021, with full operation and compliance with standards achieved in 2022. The construction scope includes a methanol complex (devices such as coal unloading and storage, gasification unit, shift unit, purification unit, gas separation unit, methanol production unit, sulfur treatment unit, etc.), an ethanol plant (units such as dimethyl ether production, carbonylation, hydrogenation, separation, compression, heating furnaces, refrigeration stations, etc.), as well as new constructions for utility systems and auxiliary facilities; the design capacity is 1.22 million tons of coal to be converted per year.
