The conversion and renovation project of Lu’an Chemical Group’s coal-based synthetic oil company was successfully completed. Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry. Date: December 13, 2021. Clicks: 7. Recently, the project to convert and renovate this company, which took nearly two years to complete, was finalized. Synthetic ammonia was produced on November 27th, while urea was manufactured at 10:30 p.m. on the 28th. By 16:00 on December 9th, 7,573 tons of urea and 8,809 tons of synthetic ammonia had been produced. In 2020, faced with the dual pressures of intense competitive homogenization within the industry and a sharp drop in international oil prices, Lu’an Coal-based Synthetic Oil Company was forced to decide to suspend production. As it happened to be a year of restructuring for Lu’an Chemical Group, the company proactively adapted to and drove this transformation. By taking into account the maximum utilization of existing assets, facilities, and even technologies, it developed 9 different plans for reorientation of production. In the end, the plan that offered the best overall benefits was chosen: suspending the oil production line, adding conversion units, and operating at full capacity to produce synthetic ammonia and urea. This solution requires only the addition of a crude gas shift unit and technical upgrades to the low-temperature methanol washing unit; this will enable the ammonia synthesis, urea, and ethanol production units to continue operating normally even when the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis unit is shut down, thus ensuring the normal production and operation of the enterprise. On October 25, 2021, the gas shift project of the coal-based synthetic oil company was successfully completed, with all conversion work finished and the facility ready for full operation. Synthetic ammonia was produced successfully on November 27, and urea was manufactured at 10:30 p.m. on the 28th. By 16:00 on December 9, 7,573 tons of urea and 8,809 tons of synthetic ammonia had been produced, achieving an operational capacity of 91.7%. It is expected that at full capacity, the plant will be able to produce 300,000 tons of urea and 240,000 tons of synthetic ammonia per year. As of December 10 this year, 173 trucks’ worth of urea has been sold, totaling 5,800.8 tons, while 138 trucks’ worth of synthetic ammonia has been sold, totaling 3,460.7 tons.
