At 11:30 a.m. on December 21, the first blast for land leveling at Sinopec Guizhou Energy Chemicals’ 500,000-ton/year Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) project was successful, putting the land leveling work on fast track. The total area for site leveling in this project is approximately 1.5 million square meters, with a total volume of earthwork and rockwork to be excavated and backfilled amounting to about 12 million cubic meters. Blasting is involved throughout almost the entire process of site leveling, and it is estimated that **over 4,400 tons** will be required. The project site is located in a karst terrain area with complex topographical conditions, making construction extremely difficult. To strengthen the safety management of blasting operations, the Site Leveling Management Team of Guizhou Energy Chemicals established a blasting command leadership group to verify each condition related to blasting one by one ； Strictly reviewed the qualifications of blasting units and personnel, as well as information related to explosives transport vehicles, and defined the security perimeter around the blasting area, thereby creating the conditions for the successful completion of the first blasting operation. The land leveling project for Sinopec Guizhou Energy Chemical’s 500,000 tons per year polyglycolic acid (PGA) production facility comprises five main components: earthwork and rockwork, slope stabilization, foundation treatment, land leveling for seepage prevention, and flood control measures. The project covers an area of approximately 1.5 million square meters; the amount of earthwork and rockwork to be handled is around 9.85 million cubic meters, of which about 6.65 million cubic meters involve blasting. The total investment amounts to 803 million yuan, with a construction period of around 15 months. The success of the first blast marks the official entry of the site leveling project into the full construction phase, laying a solid foundation for its successful completion in the future. Sinopec Guizhou Energy Chemical Company was established jointly by Great Wall Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. (with a 99% stake) and Bijie Zhijin New Area Biyun Construction Investment and Development Co., Ltd. (with a 1% stake). The 500,000-ton-per-year polyglycolic acid (PGA) project is a key project under Guizhou Province’s 14th Five-Year Development Plan, as well as a model project for Sinopec in advancing cutting-edge coal chemical technologies toward industrial application. It is located in the new energy and chemical industry base in Zhijin County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province. The total investment for the project is approximately 23 billion yuan, of which the investment for the phase II project is about 11 billion yuan. The project has an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of polyglycolic acid; phase II is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons. In accordance with the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on Comprehensively Promoting High-Quality Development signed between Sinopec and Guizhou Province, the feasibility study report for the first phase of Guizhou’s 500,000 tons per year polyglycolic acid (PGA) production project was approved by the group company on June 21, 2021, enabling the rapid advancement of the project’s construction. The main units of the project include a gasification unit, a deep cryogenic separation and hydrogen production unit, a coupling unit, a PGA unit, and supporting facilities. The main product is PGA, with by-products including sulfur, polyols, dimethyl carbonate, etc. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024, with annual sales revenue of around 3.2 billion yuan and annual profits of around 850 million yuan.
