Progress on the Construction of Sinopec Zijin’s 500,000-ton/year PGA (Polyglycolic Acid) Production Facility / Author/Source: Energy Knowledge Database / Date: 2022-01-10 / Clicks: 15 Recently, at the construction site of the first phase of Sinopec Zijin’s 500,000-ton/year PGA production facility located in Moda Village, Chadian Township, Zijin County, large excavators, transport vehicles, cranes, and other machinery were constantly moving back and forth, digging and transporting soil and stones – a scene of intense activity. At present, the preparatory work for Project West Avenue has also been completed, with the construction team entering the site in mid-December last year to begin work. Sinopec’s 500,000 tons per year PGA (polyglycolic acid) production project in Zhijin is one of the major industrial projects in Guizhou worth tens of billions. The project includes units for gasification, cryogenic separation and hydrogen production, coupling hydrogenation and polyglycolic acid production processes, storage and transportation facilities, utility systems, auxiliary production facilities, as well as facilities outside the plant. Once the project is completed, Zhijin’s traditional coal resources will be converted into biodegradable polyglycolic acid, which will be used by enterprises to produce high-quality, environmentally friendly products. Sinopec’s 500,000 tons per year polylactic acid project is a model initiative by Sinopec to advance cutting-edge coal chemical technologies toward industrial application, and it serves as a landmark project for Guizhou Province in achieving new forms of industrialization and rural revitalization. The project is located in Zhijin County, Bijie City, which is situated in the upper reaches of the Wujiang River and boasts abundant mineral resources. Sinopec and Guizhou Province took full advantage of their respective strengths to deepen their strategic cooperation, and on November 25, 2020, they signed a \"Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement for Comprehensively Promoting High-Quality Development.\" The total investment amounts to around 23 billion yuan, of which the investment for the first phase is about 11 billion yuan. This phase will enable an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of polyglycolic acid, with completion expected in 2024 ； The annual sales revenue of the product is expected to reach 3.15 billion yuan. Phase 2 will bring the capacity for polyglycolic acid to 300,000 tons per year, with completion expected in 2026. The project includes a gas gasification unit, a gas cryogenic separation unit, coupling and hydrogenation units, and a polyglycolic acid production unit; it is also equipped with a cogeneration unit and an air separation unit.
