Recently, it was reported by Yanchang Petroleum’s New Oil and Coal Technology Development Company that the 450,000 tons per year kerosene co-processing industrial pilot plant has been successfully commissioned; coal liquefaction asphalt has been produced in a usable form, marking the entry of this facility into the phase of full-scale production. In April 2021, the **Key R&D Program project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Yanchang Petroleum Group – focusing on key technologies for co-hydrogenation of coal and heavy oil as well as product processing – passed a 72-hour on-site assessment for continuous operation. Through the improvement of industrial demonstration facilities and the upgrading of process technologies, this project has developed a new process for the co-refining of kerosene. Significant progress has been made in areas such as viscosity reduction of heavy oil, development of high-efficiency catalysts, reactor optimization, and the resource utilization of solid-containing oil residues and wastewater. These efforts have helped overcome the technical barriers associated with the deep hydroprocessing of heavy oil and coal to produce gasoline and diesel, offering a new low-carbon, green technological pathway for the processing of heavy oil and the efficient conversion of coal. On the basis of passing the acceptance inspection for the project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and in accordance with the arrangements made by Yanchang Petroleum Group, the New Oil and Coal Technology Development Company launched comprehensive preparations for plant maintenance and production. It completed tasks such as plant maintenance, the replacement of desulfurization agents in the hydrogen production unit, the installation and removal of conversion catalysts, and the procurement of raw materials. Additionally, it formulated a \"Start-up Plan for the Kerosene Co-processing Plant and a Long-term Operation Plan\" to ensure the orderly commencement of plant operations. In mid-to-late December 2021, the facility entered the preparation phase for commissioning. On January 6, 2022, the suspended bed system began to circulate oil to raise the temperature, and additives were added to form the bed layer; on the 9th, coal was introduced into the reaction system, and on the 11th, the coal liquefaction residues were shaped. On December 9, 2021, the **key research and development project “Key Technologies for Co-hydrogenation of Coal and Heavy Oil and Product Processing”**, led by Yanchang Petroleum Group, successfully passed the comprehensive performance evaluation for the project. In September 2014, Yanchang Petroleum Group built the world’s first industrial demonstration plant for the co-processing of kerosene with a capacity of 450,000 tons per year in Jingbian, Yulin. The plant began operations successfully in January 2015, with the entire production process up and running. The China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized experts to conduct an on-site assessment of the unit’s 72-hour continuous operation. The results showed that at a coal powder concentration of 41.0%, the coal conversion rate was 86.0%; the conversion rate of the catalytic cracking slurry at temperatures above 525°C was 94.0%, the liquid yield was 70.7%, the energy conversion efficiency was 70.1%, and the water consumption per ton of product was 1.6 tons. In September 2015, the industrial-scale technology for coal-kerosene co-processing (YCCO), independently developed by Yanchang Petroleum Group, passed **evaluation. Experts on the evaluation committee deemed that this technology is highly innovative and is at the world’s leading level; it holds significant strategic importance for the clean and efficient conversion of coal resources, reducing dependence on petroleum resources, and ensuring **energy security.
