Record of the replacement of the adsorption tower during the maintenance work for Phase 2 of BDO production at Shanxi Chemical Industry. Author/Source: Shanxi Chemical Industry. Date: May 7, 2022. Clicks: 6. On April 26, the Phase 2 system of Shanxi Chemical Industry’s BDO production facility was scheduled to be shut down; on April 27, the systems for producing formaldehyde, acetylenes, and butanediol in Phase 2, as well as the formaldehyde production system in Phase 1, were put into maintenance mode. Maintenance work on the butanediol production system in Phase 2 was completed on May 4. The main tasks during this maintenance work include: replacing the acetylation catalyst and candle filters, replacing the catalysts in the first-phase formaldehyde reactors of Phase 2, replacing the catalysts in the hydrogenation A/B reactors, replacing molecular sieves in a total of 16 adsorption towers, as well as carrying out replacements for 11 pressure swing adsorption towers and completing projects to improve the efficiency of these pressure swing adsorption units. The planned shutdown time for this pressure swing adsorption maintenance is 7 days, with a net maintenance period of 5 days and an actual maintenance duration of 4 days (96 hours), which is 1 day earlier than the schedule indicated in the network diagram. The pressure swing adsorption efficiency improvement project was carried out by Shaanxi Tianyu Company, which completed approximately 360 welds on the pressure swing adsorption pipelines, of which around 240 were prefabricated in advance. The adsorption tower replacement project was carried out by Xi’an Yuancheng; 11 adsorption towers were replaced, and at the same time, the upper covers of the remaining 3 towers were removed and sealed. For this pressure swing adsorption maintenance work, 1 200-ton crane, 1 100-ton crane, 2 25-ton cranes, and 2 flatbed trucks were used; the scale of the work is large and the safety risks are high. The BDO branch assigned chemical plant supervisors as well as relevant operators and supervisors to take charge of specific tasks, working day and night without interruption, regardless of weather conditions. They organized and coordinated with the work teams to carry out operations on a continuous basis over 4 days, ensuring that each construction task was completed in a timely manner while maintaining safety.
