Consultation for non-electrical personnel: Since the electrical control cabinets in explosion-proof areas need to be explosion-proof, do the components inside those cabinets also need to be explosion-proof? Are there any relevant specifications?
In my opinion, it’s not necessary. If the electrical control cabinet is explosion-proof (usually of the flameproof type), it already has explosion-proof measures in place. In simple terms, the flameproof design ensures complete sealing, separating the cabinet from the surrounding explosion-proof area; this means that even if electric sparks are generated inside, they won’t affect the outside area due to this separation.
Since the electrical cabinet is an explosion-proof cabinet, the components inside it do not need to be explosion-proof; the cabinet itself provides the explosion-proof protection
It depends on how you design it for explosion protection: if it’s flameproof, then it’s as mentioned on the second floor; if it’s intrinsically safe, then it’s not a matter of the cabinet – the instruments/components themselves need to be intrinsically safe.
