Note 3 in Code for Building Design 4.2.1 only specifies the safety distances between fixed-roof storage tanks of categories A, B, and C and civil buildings, as well as locations with open flames or sparks. What are the safety distances between floating-roof tanks and civil buildings, as well as locations with open flames or sparks? Thank you.
Since the storage tank is equipped with a floating roof that can move up and down with the liquid level inside the tank, there is no space for gas to evaporate; therefore, floating roof tanks are relatively safe devices, as can be seen from note 4. When dealing with such issues, the same 25-meter distance as for civil buildings applies; however, in the presence of an open flame, it is recommended to maintain a distance of 30 meters, as it is still considered a Class A structure, and this makes it safer. This is just a suggestion for your reference.
