When starting up the syngas compressor, it is first disconnected from the synthesis loop; once the compressor is operating normally and has reached the minimum speed set by the control system, it begins to supply pressure to the synthesis loop, thereby connecting to it. However, when the ammonia compressor is started, it is connected to the refrigeration system and started directly. What is the difference between the two?
Disconnecting the syngas compressor from the synthesis loop during startup is primarily to reduce the starting power consumption; The ammonia compressor is connected to the refrigeration system when it starts up, as the refrigeration system lacks a heat source and thus results in low ammonia evaporation, ensuring the required flow rate!
The synthesis gas compressor cannot be started while connected to the synthesis loop, as high pressures are generated once the compressor starts up. If the synthesis loop is connected, the pressure increase rate will be too fast and uncontrollable, which is harmful to the system, equipment, and catalysts. The refrigeration system, due to its lower pressure, is less affected and can be connected directly. Furthermore, before the compressor starts, the anti-surge valve is fully open, so there is no need to ensure a certain flow rate.
