I heard that styrene can be extracted from the pyrolysis gasoline derived from ethylene; I would like to learn about the process.
First, selective hydrogenation is carried out to convert phenylethyne in pyrolysis gasoline into styrene; thereafter, extraction and distillation are used to isolate styrene, followed by decolorization.
This post was last edited by yhj198039 on 2012-5-30 at 10:19. The manufacturing process is very complex; various additives have to be added, and acid-base neutralization is also required. This is all I know; I’m not aware of the more detailed aspects.

We also need to use domestic technology: convert the carbon-9 removal unit into a carbon-8 and carbon-9 removal tower, then remove carbon-9; the remaining carbon-8 is subjected to hydrogenation, with the small amount of phenylacetylene present being converted into styrene or ethylbenzene. Subsequently, styrene is extracted and separated through extraction distillation, and the solvent can be reused. After decolorization and purification of the crude styrene, the final product, styrene, is obtained.
