Can wrong wiring of an electromagnetic flowmeter damage the instrument?

What consequences will occur if the electrode signal wires and excitation wires of an electromagnetic flowmeter are connected in reverse? Will this cause damage to the electromagnetic flowmeter? If anyone knows the answer, please help answer it. Thank you!
Connecting the dedicated cable incorrectly generally doesn’t cause any problems, as the instrument will display an error message once it is connected. But if the power supply is connected to the detector’s terminals, that can be **a hassle, especially when connecting a 220VAC power source to the detector. Is there no difference between the excitation wire and the signal wire? Products from well-known brands all have certain differences and indications.
