Our company has newly installed a chemical processing unit. Is it necessary for the construction contractor to conduct welding procedure qualification during installation? Under what circumstances is it necessary to conduct welding procedure qualification? Is it not necessary to conduct a welding procedure qualification under audit conditions?
Welding procedure qualification refers to the experimental process and evaluation results carried out to verify the correctness of the proposed welding procedure for a weldment. It serves to determine whether the initially devised welding procedure is feasible under specific conditions, and it constitutes an effective measure for ensuring welding quality. It is also an important step for construction companies in preparing for welding pressure pipelines, pressure vessels, and boilers. For newly installed chemical processing units, there are many types of materials and equipment, which results in a large number of welding tasks. Consequently, numerous welding procedure qualifications are required. Most reputable welding contractors have already carried out such qualifications, so it is not necessary to repeat them on site; however, the qualification reports can still be reviewed. The report includes pre-welding instructions, welding records, non-destructive testing, physical and chemical tests, and mechanical property tests
