On May 24, 2012, the groundbreaking ceremony for Beijing Energy Investment Co., Ltd.’s 2×5 million tons/year lignite upgrading project was held in the Uliastai Industrial Park in Dongwu Banner, Xilin Gol League. It is understood that the total investment in this project amounts to 8.95504 billion yuan. The LCC technology is employed, and the lignite resources from the Wunit Coal Mine located in Dongwu Banner of Xilin Gol League are utilized to produce 5.292 million tons of high-quality solid fuel (PMC), 482,000 tons of diesel, 186,500 tons of naphtha, and 15,100 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per year.

Tens of millions of tons of coal are burned every year; the land is depleted, the air is polluted, and it’s no wonder disasters occur. What’s wrong with living in harmony with nature, just as the ancient people did – relying on the mountains for food and the waters for sustenance, with blue skies, white clouds, green mountains, and clear waters as one’s surroundings? It’s hard to tell whether vigorously developing the economy is a good thing or a bad one.
For the first phase, the multi-nozzle water-coal slurry gasification technology is tentatively selected; the project is of EPC type and the contractor has not yet been determined, while the second phase is under investigation.
