How is the syngas diverted from the shift unit to the flare when the gasifier is shut down? Is the planned shutdown the same as an emergency shutdown?
A flare line is provided at the outlet of the conversion unit. Normal shutdown and emergency shutdown should share a flare line.
An emergency shutdown involves venting; there is a vent valve behind the scrubber tower that leads to the flare. In a normal shutdown, pressure is maintained through a circulation system, and the fluid does not go into the flare line – it is only when pressure needs to be released that it uses that same line.
