Dear colleagues in the coal processing industry, those who are familiar with coking processes could please help analyze why the methane content in the gas produced by our plant’s rammed coke ovens is relatively low (around 20%-22%). Tests have shown that the temperature in the oven roof area is around 740°C, while the average temperature at the center of the coke cakes is around 1030°C.
I think there’s a problem with your high-direction heating. With such low temperatures in the space, the temperature at the center of the coke cake is still 1030 degrees. It must be that the temperature at the lower part is high while it’s lower at the upper part; the coke at the lower part is broken down, while that at the upper part remains undercooked. Coupled with the low temperatures in the space, this results in less cracking of heavy hydrocarbons later on, which is why the levels of methane and H2 are low
In our coke cake, the temperature is around 980 degrees at the upper part, around 1020 degrees in the middle, and around 1050 degrees at the lower part; Is the low methane content, along with our consistently low tar yield recently, related to what the colleague upstairs mentioned? Thank you
The methane content is related to the proportion of coal with a high or low degree of metamorphism in the blend, as well as to the coking time. If the coal loading for coking is uneven, it has a significant impact on the composition of the gas; differences in methane content in the gas occur when coal is not taken out of the furnace for long periods of time or when it is taken out all at once.
