Let me ask a stupid question: why is it necessary to measure the oxygen content in the flue gas before it is sent to the chimney, in the sulfur recovery unit? I understand why SO2 is measured, but I’m not sure why oxygen content is measured. Thank you!
There are two reasons for measuring oxygen content: one is to save energy, and the other is for environmental protection. Generally, it is appropriate to keep the oxygen content in flue gas at around 2%. If it is too low, it is difficult to ensure complete combustion of the fuel gas. But if it is too high, the energy consumption will be higher. Additionally, the SO2 concentration in the exhaust gases must meet environmental emission requirements. To achieve this goal, some facilities use air injection to dilute the flue gas in order to reduce the SO2 concentration. To avoid the aforementioned problems, it is necessary to monitor the oxygen content in the flue gas.
