In large areas of arid and semi-arid lands, irrigation sewage pumps play an important role in agricultural production. These sewage pumps draw water from surface water sources, underground water sources, and increasingly from sewage treatment facilities, and transport this water to the points of use. Water drawn from surface water sources such as rivers, lakes, and ponds can be directly delivered to the distribution system or fed into the water transmission system. If it enters the water delivery system, the water can flow under the force of gravity or under pressure to the distribution points or to the booster pump stations. Most of the pumps in these devices are permanently installed and can operate at any time during the crop growing season, without requiring frequent maintenance. Typically, water taken from underground sources is directly delivered to the distribution system. Under these conditions, the well can be drilled near the irrigated area, and a pump of appropriate size is installed in the well. In many cases, more than one well is required to provide the desired flow rate. In land improvement systems, wastewater from different types of sewage treatment plants is sometimes used to irrigate the land throughout the year. In this system, the treated wastewater is temporarily stored in storage tanks or ponds, and then applied to the soil improvement areas via a spraying system at a predetermined flow rate. Since the area to be treated may be far away from the wastewater storage area, and since pressure is required to operate the spraying system, a pumping device is needed.
