The device pressure is 120 kilograms, while the outlet pressure of the sulfur injection pump fluctuates between 180 and 150 kilograms. Could someone please advise me on what the problem might be?
Sulfur injection pumps are generally metering pumps, of the piston type; their flow rate is pulsatory, and of course the pressure also fluctuates
But the pressure remains at 180 kilograms; in a few days it will drop to 150 kilograms
The piston stroke length of the metering pump, which determines the amount of sulfur injected, is also a factor that affects the outlet pressure
Our company has indeed never encountered such a phenomenon; we also have coal tar hydrogenation units. Due to the low sulfur content in the raw material components, it is necessary to continuously supply sulfur in order to maintain the catalyst’s activity and the depth of the reaction. We use single-plunger reciprocating diaphragm pumps, with a reaction pressure of 12.0 MPa; the pressure at the pump outlet fluctuates between 13.0–14.0 MPa. These fluctuations are not as large as those observed in your case, and even adjusting the frequency drive does not cause any changes – the operation remains relatively stable. Should we look for the cause mechanically within the pump itself?
How many injection pumps do you have? Try using another one to see what happens. If the same problem occurs with all of them, then it’s not a pump issue. You can also try adjusting the flow rate to see how the pressure changes
