It is believed that many manufacturers of cutting fluids, grinding fluids, and cleaning solutions often encounter situations where customers complain that these products do not have sufficient rust-preventing properties. When processing cast iron components, these components tend to rust within 2 or 3 days, or in some cases even within a few hours, and this issue remains unresolvable despite various attempts to fix it. Some cutting fluid manufacturers even add sodium nitrite to their products, but this also does not bring about any significant improvements. Everyone here might as well discuss their views and suggestions on improving rust resistance
During metal cutting, the workpiece comes into contact with corrosive substances such as sludge resulting from the decomposition or oxidation of environmental media and cutting fluid components, which causes corrosion; the surfaces of machine tool components that come into contact with the cutting fluid also corrode as a result. Furthermore, when the workpiece is temporarily stored after processing or during transfer between different processing steps, it is required that the cutting fluid possess certain rust-preventing properties, in order to prevent corrosive substances such as environmental agents and sludge present in the remaining cutting fluid from eroding the metal. Especially during the humid and rainy seasons in the southern regions of our country, extra attention should be paid to rust prevention measures between different processing steps.
