Issues regarding the notation of viscosity units

Some units of viscosity are expressed in mPa.s, while others are given in Pa.s. However, I’m not quite sure about mPa.s – does it mean megapascal multiplied by seconds, or does the ‘m’ stand for something like ‘micro’? If it’s megapascals multiplied by seconds, it should be written with the capital letter M, right? It seems to denote micro, meaning that 1 Pa·s = 1000 mPa·s. Is that correct? Could some senior please help confirm? I’ve learned *!
That's right, :D, because the unit for PaS is relatively large, so mPas is commonly used
This post was last edited by qugd on 2012-7-5 at 16:28. The unit mPa.s is called millipascal-seconds; the lowercase ‘m’ stands for milli, while the uppercase ‘M’ stands for mega. The original poster should be aware of this. Have you seen millimeters written as Mm? Or have you ever seen megabytes written as mB? However, the minimum number of bytes is 1; there are no values that are not integers.
The answers given above cover most of it; I’d like to add that in the past, units such as poise or centipoise were also used, with 1 centipoise (cP) equal to 1*10^-3 Pas.
