Why do so many posts say that the recovery rate of gold from two-stage roasting is low? What is the reason behind this? Is two-stage roasting intended only for arsenic removal?

Relatively speaking, the recovery rate for the already processed ore is naturally low; it would be even lower if arsenic removal is not carried out. Two-stage firing is already quite good.
It depends on the type of ore and the composition of its mineral elements. The two-stage roasting process is designed specifically for ores that are difficult to process. However, if harmful elements such as arsenic and carbon are not removed, the recovery rate cannot be very high regardless of the method used, and it also has an impact on subsequent smelting processes.
For arsenic-containing ores, compared with conventional roasting methods, the two-stage arsenic roasting method yields a higher leaching rate; the lower leaching rate of arsenic-containing ores is considered in relation to that of conventional gold concentrate.
