RUSAL Becomes a Member of the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association 2012-07-17 07:31 Source: CNA Asia-Pacific Business News reports that RUSAL has announced it has become a member of the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association. This association is the most influential non-profit organization in China’s non-ferrous metals industry, and Alrosa’s membership in it marks another milestone in the company’s long-term development in China. By joining the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association, RUSAL gains the opportunity to work together with the association on matters such as promoting the long-term sustainable development of the aluminum industry, advancing the use of aluminum, protecting the environment, and other mutually beneficial initiatives. Currently, RUSAL’s smelters in Siberia produce 3.5 million tons of aluminum per year, and the aluminum production capacity is expected to rise to over 4.8 million tons once the smelters in Boguchansky and Taishet come online. Thanks to the use of hydroelectric power, over 90% of this production is low-carbon; coupled with its favorable geographical location, it is able to meet China’s growing demand for aluminum. China’s aluminum consumption is expected to rise from 19 million tons in 2011 to 30 million tons by 2016.
