Dear sea friends, do process engineers in chemical plants need to master Aspen? I work in a relatively remote area, where many people have never heard of Aspen; it’s a tool that is commonly used by foreign companies – I’m a bit confused as to why domestic companies don’t use it What is the reason for its lack of widespread use? As far as I know, it is widely used in the domestic polysilicon industry and has helped solve many problems. Foreign undergraduates are required to master these skills; it seems there is still a significant gap in concepts. Some manufacturing processes can be improved through continuous experimentation, but those who rely on experience end up being mere operators (who only know how to do things without understanding why), and are unable to truly comprehend the essence and principles of such processes. Without modeling the process unit, it is impossible to truly understand it, let alone modify or optimize it. It seems that there is still a significant gap in China’s chemical industry

No need; most factories don’t design it themselves and instead turn to design institutes.
Domestic manufacturers generally do not use Aspen; not to mention this, other simulation software is also used very rarely. It is usually design institutes or design companies that make use of it. To make good use of this software, it is essential to have a solid understanding of the theoretical knowledge involved.
There are many modules in Aspen. In production, the Aspen Process Explorer is generally used; it is mainly intended for operators and production engineers. In addition, there are modules for heat exchanger calculations, such as ASPEN exchanger design&Rating, as well as modules for process simulation…… In short, it depends on which functionality you need
It’s probably not necessary anymore, but it can’t hurt to learn more good things, right? You can’t just stop learning just for the sake of work, can you? :)
