In sludge reduction processes, a mixing mechanism is required in the sludge tank; is it better to use a mechanical mixer or to mix the sludge by introducing air? In terms of effect, mechanical stirring involves a somewhat turbulent circular motion, while air stirring causes upward and downward movement without any large-scale movement. I wonder if air stirring functions somewhat like aeration, by supplying oxygen to the sludge; could this change the properties of the sludge? Will it have an impact on subsequent sludge pressing?
Aerated stirring is equivalent to aerobic nitrification; the sludge can oxidize itself, thereby achieving reduction.
This post was last edited by hesonchang214 on 2012-8-6 at 12:13. Yes, but if the time period is too short it’s pointless; I think the purpose here is to prevent sludge from settling, and generally, using mechanical stirring is a simple, convenient, and hassle-free solution!
Setting up mechanical stirring has relative advantages; the stirring intensity only needs to be sufficient to keep the material suspended above the bottom, after which it can be drawn from the bottom and sent to the filter press. I don’t know what size containers you use? What is the solid concentration?
Can a screw-type agitator mix dehydrated municipal sludge? That one has a relatively high viscosity, with a moisture content of around 80%, but its viscosity is very high; it possesses plasticity.
