Does anyone know how to calculate the compression amount of a spring assembly? What is the formula? Urgent need; thanks to everyone in advance!
This post was last edited by hao101029 on 2012-7-25 22:16. Compression amount = original length of the spring – length after compression. If it’s a set of springs, check whether the lengths of the two are the same and what the difference between them is.
The difference between them is usually 5 mm, and spring manufacturers have spring pressure gauges available. I can only look, but I can’t calculate. Please coach! Thank you!
For example, the spring assembly consists of two springs, A and B. Spring A has a length of 205 mm and a stiffness coefficient of k1, while spring B has a length of 200 mm and a stiffness coefficient of k2. A is 5 mm longer than B. If the compression amount is less than 5 mm, that is, only spring A is compressed while spring B has not been compressed, so the force F = k1 × compression amount ; If the compression amount is greater than 5 mm, for example 12 mm, then spring A is compressed by 12 mm and spring B is compressed by 7 mm; therefore, the force F = k1×12 + k2×7
There are two methods: According to the relationship between compression and spring length provided by the spring manufacturer, the elastic modulus of a spring is not a fixed value; you can verify this by doing the calculations yourself. The first method involves taking the average elastic modulus value of the larger springs and the average elastic modulus value of the smaller springs, and using the sum of these two values as the elastic modulus of the composite spring. The second method involves using a regression equation; each spring has its own regression equation, which represents the linear relationship between the spring’s tonnage and its length. Then, the length of the spring at a given common compression tonnage is calculated. Generally, the first method is used when installing springs, as the second method is too complicated. For coke ovens, it is essential to strictly control the spring set alignment at 5 mm.
