Hello everyone! I’ve run into a problem recently: we want to design the reboiler in our unit to be able to switch between two heat sources, steam and heat transfer oil. I’m not sure how to calculate the parameters for the reboiler or what factors need to be taken into account Please help take a look. Thank you!
It is possible to calculate for the two operating conditions separately and then design based on the more stringent of the two conditions
The idea is good. It is not yet clear whether this idea has been applied to production.
We want to design the reboiler of our unit to switch between two heat sources: steam and heat transfer oil ? It’s not as simple as just calculating the reboiler.
Using both steam and heat transfer oil – isn’t that unsafe? When water comes into contact with hot oil at high temperatures, it can boil violently. Do you make sure that all the water in the heat exchanger is removed before using the heat transfer oil?
Residual water vapor could cause the heat transfer oil to boil over. . Unless you can remove all the residual water from the pipes before using the heat transfer oil
Sure, we use steam during the summer when there is an excess of steam, and heat transfer oil in winter; however, when switching from steam to heat transfer oil, nitrogen is used to ensure thorough purging.
Heat transfer area, thermal conductivity, flow rate, and other factors all influence the heat of the material in the tower bottom; I have never seen heat exchangers that take advantage of both of these factors
