Question: For pipes lined with insulation material, when assigning numbers to these pipes in the PID diagram, should the diameter value refer to the inner diameter (the diameter of the pipe through which the material flows) or the diameter of the steel pipe including the thickness of the insulation layer? For example, if the calculated inner diameter of a pipe is DN500, and the total thickness of the insulation and wear-resistant layers is 200, then the diameter of the steel tube is 700. Should the diameter be indicated as 700 or 500 on the pipe designation?

On regular drawings, the pipe diameter is indicated as DN500; the insulation information is also specified on PID drawings, indicating the type of insulation used along with its thickness – in this case, 100. This is something to be confident about. For example: RWR01101-40-1A1-C4
I think it should be written as a pipe with DN700, right? As for how to represent it, it depends on the legend in your PID; if no legend is provided, you can ask the relevant personnel to clarify the meaning of the code. Or write it based on the meaning of the code, and then incorporate it into the legend specifications
I think it should be 700; what this figure represents here is related to the statistics on the size and material of your pipes, while the actual diameter of the pipes for the fluid flow is a matter related to the manufacturing process.
