Generally, two coke ovens work as a group; for example, when Oven No. 1 starts to undergo maintenance, the gas valves are closed for a short period of time. This leads to an increase in pressure in the main gas pipeline of Oven No. 2, resulting in more gas flowing into the combustion system of that oven. Incomplete combustion of this gas causes black smoke to be emitted from the chimney. As for the black smoke caused by the swap, in my opinion there’s no need to worry about it; it lasts only a short time, and things will be fine after the swap. Either increase the flue draft as mentioned on the 2nd floor to raise the excess air coefficient.
