My desalination plant uses multi-media filters with a diameter of 2600 mm and a height of 4450 mm. The designed operating flow rate is 10.3 m/h. The inlet device is of the buffer type, while the outlet device consists of an arch-shaped plate with a gravel layer. The filter media include quartz sand with a particle size of 0.5–1.0 mm, and anthracite with a particle size of 0.8–1.8 mm. What height is appropriate for filling the filter media?
It is generally at two-thirds of the height of the tank, with the filter media a few centimeters above the viewing port for easy observation.
The height of the filter media is closely related to water quality, and contact time should be taken into account during design! Calculate the height based on contact time!
