Under vacuum, which has greater strength, an elliptical head or a hemispherical head of the same diameter and thickness?
Are you referring to butterfly heads? Generally speaking, butterfly heads are widely used these days, as they exhibit excellent performance in terms of stress resistance and pressure bearing capacity
Crown head, the crown head is subjected to relatively uniform stress. Generally, spherical domed heads are used for high-pressure applications.
The domed head is a part of the spherical head; from a stress perspective, the spherical head is superior to the elliptical head!

It should be stiffness; compared to strength, in terms of internal pressure as well, a domed head is better
Internal pressure is better in a crown shape. However, since the original poster asked about vacuum, the external pressure conditions should be taken into consideration; waiting for experts to provide an answer.
As for the stress under external pressure, it’s hard to say for sure. The safety factor for both spherical shells and elliptical end caps is 15. Moreover, when calculating the allowable external pressure, a domed end cap isn’t necessarily larger than an elliptical one; the stress conditions vary depending on the external pressure. It can only be said that one type is continuous while the other is discontinuous. When it comes to choosing an end cap for withstanding external pressure, a domed end cap is probably the better choice. I seek advice from experts
