Prospects for the development of pump technology in our country
Thread Content
State-owned enterprises that produce high-tech pumps for use in power plants (including nuclear power plants), the metallurgy industry, the petrochemical sector, and other fields – such as Shen Pump, Shi Pump, Xiangdian Changsha Water Pump, and Shanghai Electric Repair and Manufacturing Factory – are striving to survive. World-renowned pump manufacturers such as ITT, KSB, and Zha Yuan are gradually entering the Chinese market, while private pump companies are developing at a rapid pace. There are currently around 1,000 pump manufacturers in China, which represents 1/10 of the world’s 10,000 such companies. The output value of pumps in China was approximately 22 billion yuan in 2004, accounting for about 1/10 of the world’s total output value of 27 billion dollars. The top ten pump manufacturers in the world account for roughly 22% of the global total, while China’s top ten pump manufacturers also account for about 22% of the country’s total pump production value. Top 10 pump manufacturers in the world in terms of sales value in 2004 (based on data from the Shanghai Industry Association, provided by Shen Pump Research Institute in 2005): 1. American ITT (1.701 billion US dollars); 2. American FLOWSERVE (1.03 billion US dollars); 3. Danish Grundfos (1.01 billion US dollars); 4. Japanese Ebara (1.00 billion US dollars); 5. German KSB (900 million US dollars); 6. Swiss Sulzer (683 million US dollars); 7. British Wilo (584 million US dollars); 8. German Wilo (584 million US dollars); 9. American IDEX (427 million US dollars); 10. American PENTAIR (400 million US dollars).Top 10 pump manufacturers in China in terms of sales value in 2004 (statistics may be incomplete and therefore inaccurate; for reference only): Shanghai Kaiquan Pump Industry Group; Shenyang Water Pump Factory Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Liancheng Pump Industry Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Dongfang Pump Industry Co., Ltd.; Shanghai KSB; Shanghai Electric Repair and Manufacturing Factory Co., Ltd.; Danai Pump Industry Co., Ltd.; Shijiazhuang Pump Industry Co., Ltd.; Xiangdian Changsha Water Pump Factory Co., Ltd.; Bopump Technology Co., Ltd. The annual growth rate of the domestic pump industry’s output is 10.5%, which is approximately 1.5 times the economic growth rate, and 2.5 times the world’s annual growth rate of 4.3% for pumps. With the development of industries such as construction, electricity, steel, petrochemicals, and environmental protection, as well as an increase in the export of pumps to the Third World, this rapid growth trend will continue for several years. Regionally speaking, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai are the fastest-growing areas, with the annual output value of pumps in these regions accounting for about 60% of the total national figure. Shanghai accounts for around 20% of the national pump output value. Half of the top ten companies in terms of sales volume are located in Shanghai, which has thus gradually become the center of China’s pump industry.
