How many units are still in operation for producing synthetic ammonia from natural gas? I hope everyone will discuss here to explore the advantages and disadvantages of this process.
For gas production, water-coal slurry or pulverized coal gasification processes are used; for purification, low-temperature methanol washing is employed for desulfurization and decarburization. Refining is carried out using the alcohol-hydrocarbonation process, while synthesis is achieved through an axial-radial composite tower process in which fresh gas at 20 MPa is directly used for heat exchange in the synthesis tower.
At present, most small nitrogen fertilizer enterprises across the country still use fixed-bed gas generation, but pressurized pulverized coal gasification and pressurized water-coal slurry gasification technologies are developing rapidly.
For natural gas-based ammonia synthesis, I believe that heat-exchange conversion processes have lower energy consumption compared to self-heating conversion processes. When combined with gas-driven compressors, PSA units along with molecular sieves are used for decarburization and purification; nitrogen is supplied after the molecular sieves, and ammonia synthesis is carried out at pressures below 15 megapascals. The energy consumption of a box furnace is too high.
