I have been continuously involved in technical exchanges, clarifications, and bidding processes for 10 LNG receiving stations in China. The company successfully won bids for valve projects at the LNG facilities in Shanghai, Ningbo, Zhuhai, and Tianjin. However, during the actual discussions, it was found that each project had different standards in place – the basic standards being BS6364 and API598. Yet for each specific project, additional special requirements were imposed, such as standards regarding external leakage and safety levels. I hope this post will serve as a starting point to compile a comprehensive list of the standards applicable to LNG valves. I will keep updating this post based on the responses from everyone; I appreciate everyone’s help in improving it.
Is the poster from a domestic valve manufacturer or a foreign-brand valve manufacturer? Which standard is used for external leakage? Which safety level standard should be used?
I am a manufacturer of foreign-brand products! For external leakage, we generally follow ISO14858 safety levels, which are typically SIL3 or SIL2. However, these two levels are mainly reference indicators and not mandatory for certification; our company’s products already possess these two certifications. For foreign projects, there are currently higher requirements regarding leakage prevention, but the requirements for SIL are more stringent in China. Considering it as an indicator of the overall safety of a system, it is one-sided to conduct safety level certifications only for certain components or devices. However, we have also suffered losses due to such requirements as part of the entry criteria for certain projects in China; therefore, we had to obtain this certification in order to develop in the Chinese market!
Could the poster introduce the characteristics of various LNG valves, such as ball valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, etc.?
Are there any differences between LNG valves and ordinary cryogenic valves in terms of appearance, anti-static properties, and actuation mechanisms? Thank you. We manufacture low-temperature valves
