How to deal with leaks in high-pressure drain lines?
Manual shutdown can be employed. If the inlet drain cannot be turned off, then the device has to be isolated by disconnecting the section of the drain that carries the medium. If the outlet drain cannot be closed, the only option is to shut down the system
For safety reasons related to high-pressure drain leakage, the system must be stopped for repairs.
High-pressure drain should be equipped with a double valve, right?
Does high-pressure drain leakage refer to internal leakage of the valve, or weld penetration? If there is internal leakage in the valve and the amount of leakage is small, the drain pipe behind the valve can be removed and a blind flange installed to temporarily seal off the leak. If the leak is at the weld in front of the drain valve, one method is to plug the leak while the system is under pressure, and the other is to shut down the system for repairs.
There are many ways to deal with leaks these days. If it’s not necessary to use switches during maintenance, one can simply use a cover with a built-in drain function, apply glue, and that’s it. If it’s necessary to use switches, then another drain outlet can be welded in place, or a high-pressure gate valve can be installed – that will suffice
If the leak isn’t severe, it can be sealed under pressure using clamps; if it’s serious, the machine needs to be stopped for repairs
Plugging leaks under pressure is a common method. Here, we use pressure to seal leaks even at a pressure of 20 kg; it’s not economical to shut down the entire system just because of one leak
In the chemical industry, safe production is of great importance; this depends on what medium is present in the high-pressure drain, what the temperature is, and whether it is highly toxic or not. Of course, if it is just for a single drain, shutting down the entire factory is absolutely uneconomical and not worth it. Plugging leaks under pressure is a very common and simple method. Based on our factory’s experience, management holds a brief meeting with the safety department to conduct a safety assessment and share the associated risks. Often, accidents occur when people simply assume that everything is safe ; But if the risks are identified through assessment and appropriate safety measures are taken, then those dangerous things become safe and controllable, thereby minimizing the occurrence of production accidents.
The leakage flow rate during high-pressure backwashing is generally quite high; if the medium is lightweight, the static electricity generated can be sufficient to cause a large fire. For safety reasons, it is better to relieve the pressure first
