Dear seniors, what are the side reaction products of MTBE? How are they created?
(CH3)2-C=CH2 + H2O → (CH3)3-C-OH 2 CH3OH → CH3-O-CH3 + H2O 2(CH3)2-C=CH2 → (CH3)3-C-CH2-CH2CH=CH2 The moisture present in the raw materials reacts with isobutylene to produce tert-butanol (TBA)； Methanol condenses to form dimethyl ether (DME) ； Isobutylene self-polymerizes to form oligomers (DIB). By selecting appropriate reaction conditions and controlling the moisture content of the raw materials, side reactions can be controlled. Butanol and isobutylene oligomers also have a high octane number, and can be added to gasoline along with MTBE.
