Why avoid starting multiple pumps at the same time? What is the current drawn when a centrifugal pump starts, compared to its normal operating current?
The starting current of a centrifugal pump motor is 4 to 7 times the rated current. If multiple pump motors in one installation start at the same time, the high starting currents exert a significant strain on the transformer and the entire power supply network, causing fluctuations in the power supply network with serious consequences; therefore, it is necessary to avoid starting multiple pumps simultaneously.
