How to navigate unemployment in middle age

A student who graduated in the 1980s worked at a state-owned enterprise for almost twenty years; suddenly the company went bankrupt, and they were given some severance pay, less than 20,000 yuan. Ha, they were forced to enter the real world. With elderly parents and children to support, is it that easy to find a job? It’s really sad; look at those who were assigned to administrative and institutional units during the same period – is it even possible to live like this?
I think a person’s abilities can be divided into two aspects: one is professional technical skills (which are particularly strong in state-owned enterprises), and the other is the comprehensive skill in handling problems (which declines over time if one works in state-owned enterprises for a long time). Unless it is a position that requires high levels of specialization, society needs more people with the ability to handle problems.

Take your time, don’t rush; there’s always a way out
It’s not clear what they did in state-owned enterprises before; if it was a technical role, then it might still be possible to find a job, and the same goes for management roles. LS is right. After working for 20 years, if one works hard, they should at least become a technical expert. Finding work shouldn’t be too easy; if one just spends their time drinking tea and reading newspapers, then they need to figure things out on their own.
