What is the purpose of installing a valve at the outlet of the safety valve?
I see that there are valves at both the inlet and outlet of many safety vent valves; I’m not sure what’s going on
The inlet valve of the safety valve is used to close it in case of a failure of the safety valve, thereby allowing for its replacement or maintenance. Commonly known as a root valve.

According to the regulations, it shouldn’t be there; the additional valve on the outlet is probably meant to prevent backflow of gas from the safety valve and flare system. This has happened in our company!
Valves should not be installed on the outlet, and the inlet valve must not be closed casually either.

Generally, valves are installed at the inlet side to facilitate replacing the safety valve without shutting down the system, but it is required that all valves located at the inlet of the safety valve must be opened； To prevent gas from flowing back in the pipeline at the outlet of the safety valve, this issue can be resolved by installing a water seal.
During normal operation, both the shut-off valves before and after the safety valve must be fully open. When the safety valve needs to be maintained or calibrated, it can be completely removed.

According to the specifications, no valves are allowed to be installed in front of or behind the safety valve. For the purpose of maintaining the safety valve, a valve can be installed at the inlet, but it must remain open at all times.
