What fluids cannot be measured by a mass flow meter? Can hydrogen chloride be measured? Will it get clogged over time?
Are you referring to a Coriolis mass flow meter? The Coriolis mass can generally be measured for gases, but this is not necessarily the case for thermal methods; mixed gases with significant compositional variations cannot be measured. Hydrogen chloride gas is used in scientific measurements; stainless steel can be used for dry hydrogen chloride gas, but it’s not suitable when the gas contains water, as 316L corrodes very quickly in such conditions. Mass measurement with a Teflon lining is usually used, but a large-radius elbow should be selected to achieve good measurement accuracy.
Mass flow meters cannot measure liquids that are prone to crystallization or have high viscosity. The measuring tube inside the mass flow meter has a small diameter and many bends; if the fluid contains crystals or solids, it is prone to blockage, and such blockages are very difficult to remove
