Polishing technology for stainless steel valves
The process of removing or refining the machining marks remaining on the surface processed in previous steps, with the aim of reducing the surface roughness parameters of the valve sealing surface or increasing its brightness, is collectively referred to as polishing. Generally, polishing cannot improve the dimensional accuracy and shape accuracy of the workpiece. When the machined surface only requires a low surface roughness value and there are no strict requirements regarding shape accuracy, hard lapping tools cannot be used; instead, only soft lapping tools can be employed for polishing. Polishing is often used to remove the machining marks left by previous processes, or on surfaces that have already been finely processed. Polishing is also often used to achieve a bright and attractive surface as well as good fatigue strength, or to prepare for processes such as chromium plating. For example, the polishing of spheres and the polishing of the pilot valve stem in emergency shut-off valves, etc. 1.1 Principle of abrasive polishing: Polishing involves combining abrasives with solid, semi-solid, liquid, or gas carriers in forms such as adsorption, coating, embedding, mixing, or bonding. By utilizing relative motion between these components and the workpiece through mechanical, electromagnetic, chemical, or electrochemical reactions, energy in the form of mechanical, hydraulic, chemical, electrochemical, magnetic, or composite energy is generated, which enables the abrasives to perform cutting actions. This results in plastic deformation of the slightly uneven surface of the workpiece, with the raised areas being \"flattened\" and filling in the depressions. Under the combined effect of these various factors, the machining marks left from previous processing steps on the workpiece surface are gradually removed and refined. II. Types of abrasive polishing 1. Polishing with rigid abrasive flexible tools. The polishing using rigid abrasive flexible tools can be understood and analyzed in terms of the mechanisms of grinding and lapping. Its features include good flexibility and cushioning elasticity during the polishing process, it does not burn the workpiece, and it can be used for polishing various surface shapes. Compared to free abrasive polishing, it has a stronger cutting capacity and higher processing efficiency. 1.1. Sanding with sanding cloths and paper A. Manual polishing: This method makes use of single sheets of sanding cloth or paper; polishing is carried out by direct manual control, or through an intermediate medium such as when these materials are attached to soft surfaces like plexiglass plates and brought into contact with the workpiece to be polished. B. Mechanical polishing: Various types of sanding belts and mechanical devices are primarily used to automatically carry out the polishing of different surface shapes.
