For asphalt pipelines equipped with jacket heating, heat transfer oil is used as the heating medium. What medium should be used for pipeline pressure testing – water or compressed air? Is this specified in any standards?

The pressure testing of the jacketed pipe is carried out in two stages: first, the main pipeline section is pressurized; second, the jacket is installed or welded; third, the jacket itself is pressurized. Since this jacketed pipe uses heat transfer oil as the heating medium, it does not necessarily mean that gas must be used for pressure testing – the design requirements determine this
