I currently have a table provided by the engineering team regarding the setting of alarm values for instruments; it’s an alarm setting table. However, many of the instrument identifiers listed cannot be found in the instrument database, even though the corresponding circuits do exist. For example, the identifier 72-FI-008A cannot be found, but the circuit 72-F-008 can be located. There are instruments such as FE, FT, FAH, etc., but no FI instruments. The alarm value should be set above FAH or FAL, where F stands for flow rate, A denotes alarm, H indicates high alarm, and L denotes low alarm.
The instrument database merely creates a loop that includes functions such as control indications and alarms for the field sensing elements and control units in that loop. The automation team is also required to prepare a list of instrument alarms based on the high and low alarm values specified by the process team, for use in system configuration and by operators.
But generally speaking, these are all weak points; perhaps I can set a high alarm level for FAH. However, there are also alarms such as LL, L, HH, HHH, etc., at the FI level of this process – do I need to set them as well for FAH? Moreover, the instrument database does not contain instrument tag numbers such as FAHHH.
Each different alarm for a given tag is separate: FALL is the low-low flow alarm, FAL is the low flow alarm, FAH is the high flow alarm, and FAHH is the high-high flow alarm. These four types of alarms need to be set up individually.
L and H are present in most cases; LL, HH, LLL, and HHH are not necessarily present – it depends on the specific situation
Important liquid levels include LL, HH, LLL, and HHH.
