The oil pump in this unit is a horizontal (ground-level) pump; the standby oil pump does not start when activated. The exhaust valve at the outlet pressure gauge is normally open, but it still fails to start during operation. When the pressure gauge is removed, air is discharged in large quantities. I seek advice from the experts here.
There is air in the pipeline, causing air locking in the pump
Is the oil pump a centrifugal pump? Is it because the fuel tank level is too low? It can’t be that the pump casing is filled with oil, causing air entrapment
The fuel tank level is above the pump’s volute, and the outlet exhaust valve remains fully open; however, the pump fails to start repeatedly
The sealing is done using dry gas seals. I once had a pump with dry gas seals; the operator set the sealing pressure to its maximum level, and as a result, the N2 used for sealing ended up entering the pump casing. This meant that it was necessary to reduce the N2 pressure before starting the pump each time.
Is it gaseous, liquefied gas, or liquid? Is the temperature high or low? They’re all different.
Ensure thorough exhaust, even if it takes a bit more time. Also, after starting up, open the outlet return valve fully as soon as possible. Based on what you said, the problem is actually quite clear. If exhaust is not effective, consider using the high-pressure medium at the outlet of the operating pump to feed back into the standby pump, if one is available.
