Dear sea friends: There is a centrifugal pump with a pressure of 20 MPa and a temperature rating of 250°C, classified as grade 10. If its motor power is 1400 KW and the outlet manual valve is closed when starting the pump. What will happen to the centrifugal pump in this case? Why? ? ? ?

If neither of these is available, the axial thrust on the pump will be very high, and the seal rings will wear out after a short time, resulting in a significant decline in the pump’s performance. As for whether the mechanical seal is damaged, that’s considered a minor issue. Over time, damage to the pump is inevitable – issues may arise with the seal rings, rotor, mechanical seal, and bearings. It depends on whether the protective interlocks in place are effective; otherwise, it could affect the motor as well.
