For a shielded pump that uses heat transfer oil at temperatures of two to three hundred degrees, I don’t think it’s necessary to take measures to prevent freezing in winter; however, the design institute recommends such measures. Also, which is better, a shielded pump or a centrifugal pump?
When the ambient temperature is below the freezing point of the liquid to be pumped, it is advisable to use anti-freezing measures such as insulated pipes to ensure easy pump startup. The question raised by the poster is whether shielded pumps or centrifugal pumps are better; shielded pumps are leak-proof and are used for transporting flammable, explosive, corrosive, or valuable liquids, although magnetic pumps are now often used in place of them. The efficiency of shielded pumps is usually lower than that of centrifugal pumps with single-end mechanical seals. In fact, shielded pumps also belong to the category of centrifugal pumps; they just have different applications.
Thank you for your reply. The centrifugal pump I’m referring to is a standard ordinary centrifugal pump. The initial selection was an ordinary centrifugal pump combined with a mechanical seal using metal bellows, but after further discussion it was changed to a shielded pump; however, the design institute raised concerns regarding freezing protection in winter. Magnetic pump pumps are usually quite expensive, right?
Magnetic pumps are also available in different materials, and their prices vary accordingly. It doesn’t seem expensive, right?
