The liquid in the torch separator tank is mainly water, right? If there is no heat tracing, it will freeze over in winter!
It shouldn’t, because the inlet temperature of a hot torch is generally not very low. This ensures that the temperature inside the separation tank does not drop below zero degrees.
In our system, steam is added when the temperature in the low-temperature methanol wash is low. The key is that temperatures are relatively low in winter.
It’s too cold here in winter. The flare pipelines are all equipped with heat tracing. But it’s not on the liquid separation tank; I don’t know why.
What liquid is mainly separated by the flare separator tank in the low-temperature methanol washing process? It seems to not be water. I think it is mainly to separate the methanol liquid; methanol or methanol aqueous solutions do not freeze at low temperatures. As for installing heat tracing pipes on the pipelines, it is mainly used to prevent the temperature of the flare pipelines from dropping too low and to protect the equipment.

I found that the methanol content in the water discharged from the flare gas separator tank at the site was very low. The temperature measurement point for the steam-regulated flare gas is located relatively close to the liquid separation tank; generally, we keep the temperature of the flare gas above 10 degrees. If a gas at room temperature is continuously fed into the separation tank, the water should not freeze easily.
