Products developed through independent research hold great significance
It is a set of industrialized synthetic rubber production technologies independently developed by China; the production of synthetic rubber is a **strategic endeavor with great significance for national defense and other areas.
It was the first set of technologies in the country to be developed through relatively independent research. Subsequent SBS and styrene-butadiene rubber were both developed on its basis. Since synthetic rubber was relatively simple to produce, it was the only type of rubber that could be developed independently at that time; other technologies had to be imported, and it took many years before they could be assimilated. Therefore, the success of BR is of great significance!
What does it mean that synthetic rubber is relatively simple? Back in the 1970s, our country also carried out research on other rubber technologies; then why wasn’t it the research and development of those other rubber technologies that won this award? What about butadiene?
Other technologies have only reached pilot plant scale or trial production at the thousand-ton level, failing to reach the 10,000-ton scale; for various reasons, they are just one step away from industrialization and have not managed to become the number one in the country. What a pity! ! !
So have all the other rubbers now also achieved industrial production on a ten-thousand-ton scale? I’d like to ask for advice
I took a look at the proceedings of the 5th National Conference on the Synthetic Rubber Industry in 1983 – it has 256 pages, and styrene-butadiene rubber was already being produced in quantities of tens of thousands of tons at the Synthetic Rubber Plant of Lanzhou Chemical Company.
Some only have a single unit and do not cover the entire process. In China, those that currently use proprietary technology to produce products on a ten-thousand-ton scale include SBS, SSBR, SEBS, as well as isoprene rubber which our company is about to put into industrial production. Fortunately, except for Yuehua’s SEBS, I was involved in the development of the process packages for all of them. So it still needs to be understood. The EPDM currently under development is also in the pilot stage. Both LCBR K resin and SIBR have undergone industrial trials and their process packages have been developed, but no new facilities have been built yet, so it cannot be said that they have been put into use.
