The filter we use to remove particles from gases (which contain water and oil) suddenly saw its pressure difference rise from 0 KPa to 100 KPa one day; it is likely that the filter element inside has frozen. Can this filter element still be used? Those who have had similar experiences, please share
The key is to check after thawing whether the filter element is damaged; if it’s not damaged, then there should be no problem, otherwise it can’t be used.
Could a sudden increase in pressure be caused by large debris blocking the filter? Take it apart and have a look. If it’s really frozen, add heat tracing to the outer wall of the filter to maintain a steady temperature.
Is the temperature of your filter very low? Why has it frozen? Upon inspection, it is highly likely that the filter element is clogged by impurities filtered out; clean the filter element and then use it again.
It has heat tracing; power was cut off for 1 hour in between. The pressure difference was 0 before the power outage, and it increased after power was restored
It’s better to replace it, as the filter element shouldn’t freeze; otherwise, there’s no need for heating.
Adding heating is mainly for preventing freezing – is it used in summer as well? If it freezes, applying heat tracing usually helps to restore normal operation, meaning the pressure difference will decrease… Could it be that the pressure measurement pipeline has frozen and become blocked? Switch to the backup pipeline and check it……
In other words, once the filter element freezes, it cannot be reversed to its original state. It’s similar to an apple – once it freezes, it can’t return to its previous condition, right?
Yes, it’s better to replace it. A filter element isn’t expensive, and it’s important that the equipment operates properly; after all, filter elements are meant to be consumable items
