Do heat exchanger gaskets have a front and back side?
The rubber gaskets of plate heat exchangers have a direction; I’m not too sure about the rest.

It depends on the shape of the sealing gasket you use. Currently, the most common type in the market is the ‘roof-shaped’ one; there is a difference between the two shapes, and roof-shaped gaskets generally provide a better sealing effect compared to those of other shapes

Can the original poster clarify whether it’s a plate exchange or a pipe exchange? For plate exchangers, the gaskets produced by most manufacturers have a distinct front and back side, though some do not.

In fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers, whether gasketing is done with wound gaskets or wrapped gaskets, there is no distinction between sides.
